Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

The accolades keep pouring in for CONFUSION!

Coming on the heals of its win of “Games Magazine’s 2012 Best Abstract Strategy Game of the Year“…

“Confusion: Espionage and Deception in the Cold War” has been awarded this very high honor…

MTV-Geek’s 2011 “Game of the Year”!

Stronghold Games is very proud to bring you this great game, one which was very nearl lost to the sands of gaming time. Fortunately, we were able to locate and deliver this clever Robert Abbott design despite the number of years that had passed without worldwide publication.

Confusion combines unique design elements, great game play, and of course fantastic components into complete gaming experience.  Enjoy the mechanics of deduction, area control, bluffing, and the mechanic of “espionage” itself… as you never really know if your Spy is working for you, or he is a Double Agent working for your enemy!

Statement from Stronghold Games Regarding “Richard Hamblen’s Merchant of Venus”

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

It has come to our attention that Fantasy Flight Games has also announced the reprint of “Richard Hamblen’s Merchant of Venus”, indicating that they have received the sub-license to reprint from a third party.

First and foremost, Stronghold Games bears no ill will towards Fantasy Flight Games over what is a very unfortunate situation. In fact, we have been and will continue to be big fans of Fantasy Flight’s work within the hobby game industry.

Over 18 months ago, we began negotiating with Mr. Richard Hamblen, the designer of “Merchant of Venus”, to procure the license from him to his great game design, finally signing an agreement recently.  Mr. Hamblen believes that the sub-license is solely his to offer, and he has selected Stronghold Games for the reprint.

Stronghold Games and Mr. Hamblen believe that the third party, which sub-licensed “Merchant of Venus” to Fantasy Flight Games, does not have the contractual right to do so without Mr. Hamblen’s permission.

At this time, we are discussing the situation with all parties involved, noting once again that we view Fantasy Flight Games in the highest regard and regret that they have been put into this position.  We are working toward an amicable resolution to this matter.

The International Spy Museum spies “Confusion: Espionage and Deception in the Cold War”

International Spy Museum

International Spy Museum... there be GAMERS there!

In a move of international intrigue (or just great thematic connection), the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC will stock the new Stronghold Games’ release Confusion: Espionage and Deception in the Cold War.

The International Spy Museum contacted Stronghold Games after hearing about the upcoming release of Confusion: Espionage and Deception in the Cold War.  There are some gamers in their spying midst, and once they saw the reviews of the game play and the quality of the components, they wanted to have this great game in their Gift Shop.  And the theme didn’t hurt either…

The International Spy Museum opened in Washington, DC on July 19, 2002. It is the only public museum in the United States solely dedicated to espionage and the only one in the world to provide a global perspective on an all-but-invisible profession that has shaped history and continues to have a significant impact on world events.

The Museum features the largest collection of international espionage artifacts ever placed on public display. Many of these objects are being seen by the public for the first time. These artifacts illuminate the work of famous spies and pivotal espionage actions as well as help bring to life the strategies and techniques of the men and women behind some of the most secretive espionage missions in world history.

The mission of the International Spy Museum is to educate the public about espionage in an engaging way and to provide a context that fosters understanding of its important role in and impact on current and historic events. The Museum focuses on human intelligence and reveals the role spies have played in world events throughout history. It is committed to the apolitical presentation of the history of espionage in order to provide visitors with nonbiased, accurate information.
